Bragging Rights!

You know, having strong opinions (a.k.a. my previous post LOL) and the confidence to voice them, is part of being in the “better half.”  I think that the major difference between me at pre-40 and post -40, is that I have more confidence in who I am, how I feel, what I need and where I’m going.  And so do you!  That’s part of the beauty of it all.  And ALL of us have beauty.  YES – ALL of us, in some way, shape or form have beauty.  Most of us, at this age, are comfortable enough with ourselves to realize it.   Aren’t you?

At lunch the other day, a friend was discussing my blog with me and actually sounded less than impressed … almost slightly annoyed.   She said to me “You know … we all aren’t you!   We don’t look like you – and haven’t been blessed with your genetics.  Some of us can’t do half the things that you do – or talk about on your blog!  It’s seems overwhelming to even try!”  And this was from one of my beautiful, cool, successful and VERY social friends!  I was somewhat mystified!  But you know … it’s ALL about perception.

This woman clearly has it together!  YET – she can feel overwhelmed in the face of a few suggestions to better herself and/or her life in the second half.  I think she speaks for many women – because the perception of themselves is less than real.  Women are so hard on themselves that the confidence factor, so important in life, can still be fleeting.  If I can make one solid suggestion here, it’s PLEASE, please, please take a deep breath, lift your chin and feel good about yourself.

At this point in your life you are so freakin’ special … think about ALL you’ve done, all you’ve loved, all you’ve experienced!  It all adds up to one completely unique lifetime that is yours alone!  Be proud of that life!  When you feel it – it shows.  Confidence emanates from your pores and precedes you into rooms – it gets you noticed – it brings you things – it makes you feel good – it makes others want to be around you – it comes from within!  Nobody can take it away – and nobody can give it to you.

Most women have spent the first half of their lives in search of it – which naturally means by the second half, most have secured it!  BRAVO!  That’s one of the major things we older women have OVER the younger ones!  Certainly a woman in her 30’s  may have achieved some semblance of it … but a woman in her 20’s … not so much.  Confidence in a younger woman is usually hollow – and oftentimes even brash – depending on how loud she is.   But with an older woman, finally comfortable with herself, it rides on the heels of grace and is completely natural.

My favorite Eleanor Roosevelt quote = “No one can make you feel insecure, without your permission.”

So remember!  Confidence is darn sexy!  And WE’VE earned the bragging rights!
